Cognitive 1 - Double-Dualing

Technique Name: Double-Dualing

Technique Target Skill: Communication, Extrapolation, Understanding

Prerequisites: Video 4.5.  Optional:  "Extra!  Extra!  Who Cares?" (Article)

Participants: Solo (2+ if desired)

Purpose(s): To exercise the participant in understanding the double-dual nature of speech and cognitive impression.

Steps:

  1. Pick a word
  2. Identify opposite impression states (0 = inactive, 1 = active)
  3. Identify opposite nth states (include/exclude, +/- respectively)
  4. Repeat with 1 or more different words as desired from step 1

Explanation:

The participant picks a word.  This can be done as a solo endeavor, in partners, or in groups.  The choice of word can be a specific or reactive choice.  A specific choice would not be dependent upon a rule, where a reactive choice might be to pick the word at the end of a sentence, or the main verb in a sentence, or the like.  In the 2nd step, the participant acknowledges the active state of the chosen word.  Since the word has been selected, it is recognized to be cognitively active, or making an impression.

Having identified a word as cognitively active, the participant then moves on to the next step.  For step 3, the state of the chosen word (unchanged selection from step 1) is assumed to be "active" but is now identified with both positive and negative modifiers for the chosen word.  For example, the positive outputs for the topic of "running motion" is "run" at +1 because it is a specific, and active term.  "Not running" would reside at -1, because it actively counters the +1 value.  The equivalent mathematical symbols are "=" and "!=" for +1 and -1 respectively.

The process is repeated as an exercise to strengthen the participant's knowledge of double-dual states of reality and language.
